TOMMY ELSTON FRONT PAGE NEWS
August 19, 2008

Tommy Elston and his #45 Dirt Late Model team returned to dirt-slinging action over the weekend at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa (August 16) and the Sedalia State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri (August 17). At West Liberty on Saturday night, Tommy started tenth in the A-Main and advanced five positions despite his rebuilt GRT car having a tight feeling to it. The Keokuk, Iowa native wound up fifth in the final rundown at West Liberty behind winner Brian Harris, Nick Marloff, Chris Simpson, and Jeremiah Hurst.

A night later, Tommy was leading his heat race at Sedalia when a broken motor spoiled what could have been a great night for the Tommy Elston Racing team. Due to the motor issues, he was forced to retire from the rest of the program and did not start the $3,000 to win O'Reilly MLRA Series feature event. The Tommy Elston Racing team competed in one lone event during the 4th of July holiday weekend and unfortunately for the #45 team, it was a rough night. Tommy Elston finished fifth in his heat race at the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa on Saturday night, July 5 to earn the thirteenth starting spot in the 'Firecracker 50.' As Tommy was moving forward in the A-Main to what was probably going to be a top five finish, his j-bar and driveshaft broke and dug into the track, causing his #45 to flip wildly in the air. Tommy escaped the wreck without serious injury, but his GRT chassis came away badly damaged. He will probably be taking the next few weeks off from racing action to regroup from the July 5 incident at West Liberty.

The Tommy Elston Racing team traveled to the pristine Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri last Saturday night, June 21. The inaugural running of the 'O'Reilly Late Model Challenge' took place at Wheatland and a $10,000 top prize was up for grabs in the one-day show. Tommy Elston won his heat race and amassed enough passing points in doing so to earn the outside fourth row starting spot in the 51-lap main event. The Keokuk, Iowa native suffered handling problems during the feature event; however, which relegated him to a twenty-first place performance.
